How to Install elementary OS Freya

elementary OS is beautiful Linux operating system based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with its own desktop environment, called Pantheon. It is quite popular in open source community. Since it is base on Ubuntu it is compatible with the most Ubuntu application.

This tutorial will show you how to install latest stable release of elementary OS Freya.
To install it alongside Windows OS please follow my guide "How To Install Elementary OS And Dual Boot With Windows"


elementary OS Freya Installation Guide:

1. Download .iso File 

First thing to do before proceed to the next step is go to elementary OS download page. On their website you will be asked to purchase the OS with some optional prices.


If you want to help developer, you can choose the price above. But if want this OS for free choose Custom and fill with 0 (zero) and click Purchase elementary OS then choose your download, 32 or 64 bits.

2. Create USB Installation 

To create USB Installation please follow my guide "How to Create Linux Live USB Using rufus On Windows"

3. Boot Your Live Usb
After creating live USB, reboot your system. Go to boot option, right after your computer start to boot hit special key to go to this option. It could be one of F1-F12 keys or even Delete or Esc key depends on your machine manufacture. 

From this menu, select Removable media and press Enter.

4. Install elementary OS


Select your language and click Install elementary. You can also choose Try elementary and install it later to make sure your machine is working well with elementary.


On the picture above you have options to download update while installing and Install third-party software. Check the box if you want to get update and get some plugins, or you can uncheck them to save installation time. Check those option will add extra hours moreover if your internet connection is slow as mine. Uncheck them is safe, since you can do those option after you finish installation.
Click continue.


Now choose "Erase disk and install elementary" this option will automatically create partition on your machine. This is the easiest way, but be careful, it will erase your previous operating system if you have one.
Click Install Now.


It will prompt you some warning, click continue.


Select your region click continue.


Select keyboard layout.

Now fill the form with your information to create username and password. 


After all steps above, the rest of the installation proceeds without requiring any other input. 


Now installation is finished. Restart your computer and enjoy your new elementary OS.
